I'm surprised we bumped MIN_SUPPORTED_MAJOR to 10 -- is it really not possible to read 9.x indexes from 11?

This is old news that does not take #16741 into account . Reading 9.x indices is possible without it, but only via the expert read-only API. An IndexWriter can't be opened against those indices without the changes from #16741 . The wording here mentions "opening" but what is implied is full support as far as I understand it.

that's the plan. Good reason to get this one in for now and resolve conflicts in the linked PR.

I guess we will update this once #16741 is merged?

I went through the migrate guide and added some changes that I thought deserve a mention.
I also added some code snippets where helpful.
I also clarified the complement regexp syntax entry: it was deprecated in Lucene 10 and remove in Lucene 11.
