A minimalist timer and stopwatch app for macOS with a clean, modern interface and menu bar integration.

Requirements

  • macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later
  • Xcode 15+ (for development)

Installation

From Source

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/alxgraphy/Mono-macOS.git

# Navigate to project directory
cd Mono-macOS

# Open in Xcode
open "Mono macOS.xcodeproj"

Steps

  1. Build the project (Cmd+B)
  2. Run the app (Cmd+R)
  3. The app will appear in your menu bar

Building for Release

# Archive the app
xcodebuild archive -scheme "Mono macOS" -archivePath "./build/Mono.xcarchive"

# Export the app
xcodebuild -exportArchive -archivePath "./build/Mono.xcarchive" -exportPath "./build" -exportOptionsPlist exportOptions.plist

Usage

Timer Mode

  1. Click Timer or press T
  2. Click the time display to edit duration
  3. Press Space to start
  4. Press Space to pause
  5. Press Esc to reset

Stopwatch Mode

  1. Click Stopwatch or press S
  2. Press Space to start counting
  3. Press Space to pause
  4. Press Esc to reset

Statistics

When running, the statistics panel appears on the right showing:

  • Total Sessions - Number of completed sessions
  • Total Time - Cumulative time tracked
  • Longest Session - Your longest continuous session
  • Recent 5 - Last 5 sessions with timestamps

Keyboard Shortcuts

Key Action
Space Play/Pause timer or stopwatch
Esc Reset timer/stopwatch
T Switch to Timer mode
S Switch to Stopwatch mode
Cmd+, Open Settings
Cmd+Q Quit app
Return Confirm time edit

Press ? in the app to see the shortcuts overlay


Menu Bar

The menu bar icon shows:

  • Current timer/stopwatch time
  • Running/paused state
  • Click to bring window to front

Menu Bar Options:

  • Show/Hide Window
  • Start/Pause
  • Reset
  • Quit

Customization

Themes

Toggle Theme:

  • Click the sun/moon icon (top right)
  • Switches between dark and light modes

Auto Theme:

  • Enable in Settings to follow system theme
  • Automatically switches based on macOS appearance

Settings

Access via Cmd+, or the gear icon:

  • Default Mode - Choose Timer or Stopwatch as startup mode
  • Default Theme - Set preferred theme (Dark/Light)
  • Auto Switch Theme - Follow system appearance
  • Timer Auto Repeat - Automatically restart timer when complete
  • Show Pizzazz - Toggle visual effects and animations
  • Always on Top - Keep window above other windows
  • Show in Menu Bar - Show/hide menu bar icon

Known Issues

Menu Bar

Issue: Menu bar icon doesn't update immediately
Status: macOS limitation with update frequency
Workaround: System handles updates automatically after 1 second

Statistics

Issue: Session history clears on app restart
Status: Planned fix with CoreData persistence
Workaround: Keep app running in background
