The problem appears to be creating an asset with \0 in its URL/name/etc

I believe that you should be using bytea rather than text for the field, because there's no guarantee that asset data is valid Unicode text

Postgres, just while storing to a jsonb column, can't handle zero bytes in strings. But we really want this to be text so that we can ILIKE compare and match 'tok' to 'TOK' when looking up assets. So, the workaround we're planning is to put an escaped string into the database with '\x00' or '\u0000' in the instead of zero bytes. All the data is still text, no migration, new data gets fixed.
