widgetcraft: arcane technological tools.

I aim to construct a full suite of bespoke hardware tools to use in my everyday electronics work, and other needlessly beautiful gadgetry with a wizardly aesthetic.

I made Archimedes, my AI owl familiar, for Bay Area Maker Faire 2018. That seems to have kicked off a whole scene, as it directly inspired my now-friend Odd Jayy to make his first companion bot, Asi, and he's really taken the concept to new creative heights; and there's now a growing community around wearable robots! I've now also built Archie 2 and F3NR1R, a fennec fox 'bot.

"Ouija planchette" ESP8266-01 programmer / earring – files, project page

An adapter to load Arduino code onto the ESP-01 module (ESP8266), using an FTDI cable, based on a circuit shared by Alasdair Allan in Make Magazine. The board art is partially traced from a public-domain illustration of nasturtiums, by Maurice Pillard Verneuil.

ATtiny85 programmer – files, project page

An adapter to load Arduino code onto the ATtiny85 chip, using an Uno as the programmer, based on a circuit by Arjun Ganesan. The board art is a public-domain illustration, "Geryon", from Dante's Inferno.

Quarles' ruler – files

A PCB ruler designed to use OSH Park's After Dark and Flex stack-ups. Featuring two public-domain images from Quarles' Emblems.

Charmware – project page

Modular tech jewelry system; shared at EMF Camp 2018. Created to help me (and others) start learning PCB design with a simple board.

Arcane circle generator – project page

An epaper screen (InkPlate 6) that generates a new "alchemical" design every 20 seconds, unless turned off, in which case it keeps displaying the most recent one.
