Error when first fetching remote

I added an existing repo located in WSL but it fails to fetch origin (using top right Fetch Origin button)

Root cause confirmed (same underlying issue as #65): the app runs git inside your WSL distro, and for HTTPS remotes there are no credentials there. Upstream GitHub Desktop authenticates via a Windows-side credential helper wired to the app, which can't run inside the distro, so the fork currently skips auth env entirely — hence could not read Username ... terminal prompts disabled on the first fetch.

Workarounds until in-app credential passthrough lands:

1. SSH remote (recommended — this is what the fork is designed around): inside WSL generate/reuse an SSH key, add it to your GitHub account, then git remote set-url origin git@github.com:OWNER/REPO.git. The daemon uses your WSL SSH keys natively.
2. Share Windows Git Credential Manager with WSL (needs Git for Windows installed): inside WSL run
   git config --global credential.helper "/mnt/c/Program\\ Files/Git/mingw64/bin/git-credential-manager.exe"
   (Microsoft's documented setup)
