Unable to play music directly through Steam Deck audio output

Issue:

Hi, I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I missed a setting somewhere, but I’m not able to select the Steam Deck itself as the playback device.

When I open the device/output selection in Deckify, I only see options like:

Everywhere
Echo Dot

I do not see the Steam Deck as an available playback device.

I was under the impression that this plugin/app would allow me to listen to music directly on the Steam Deck while playing games, using the Steam Deck speakers or the currently selected Steam Deck audio output. Instead, it seems like playback is only available on external devices.

Expected behavior:

I should be able to select the Steam Deck as the playback device and hear the music through the Steam Deck speakers, headphones, Bluetooth headset, or whatever audio output is currently selected in SteamOS.

Actual behavior:

The Steam Deck does not appear as a selectable playback device. Only external devices such as Echo Dot are shown.

Question:

Is this expected behavior, or should the Steam Deck appear as a playable device? Is there a setting I need to enable?

Environment:

Device: Steam Deck
Mode: Gaming Mode
SteamOS version: 3.7.22
Plugin/app version: v0.1.4
Audio output selected in SteamOS: Steam Deck speakers (default)

Additional context:

My goal is to play music in the background while gaming directly on the Steam Deck, not stream it to another device.

I second this issue. Just installed today. Bluetooth is off.

Hello, first of all, I’d like to apologize.
Due to a high volume of notifications I’ve received recently, and the fact that GitHub issue emails weren’t delivered promptly, I didn’t see your issue until now.

In fact, the scenario you described is exactly what we’ve already implemented.

1. Due to Spotify’s settings, after installing Deckify, you must select your Steam Deck as the player in Spotify on another device and play a song once.

2. Then, scroll to the bottom of the Spotify app, tap “Connect,” and complete the connection.

3. This will allow you to enjoy smooth, seamless music playback on your device, and your Steam Deck will then have the ability to play music independently.

Also, rest assured that this does not require Bluetooth permission.
