Description
Your proposed enhancement
Version: v5.0.14
On the main navigation the icons for the Analysis and Statistics tabs feel functionally unintuitive from their common meaning. This creates confusion and friction for the user, as the icon does not reflect the content of the section it represents.
Current Behavior
- The Analysis tab, which displays a detailed tabular view of individual time entries (a data grid for inspection and auditing), is incorrectly assigned a line-graph icon (📈). At the same time, the Statistics tab displays aggregated data summaries with visualizations (charts showing totals by month, customer, etc.) uses a horizontal bar-graph icon. This causes semantical ambiguity.
This forces the user to ignore the icons and rely on memory to navigate, violating the principle of least surprise.
Proposal
- Replace the line-graph icon for Analysis with a magnifying glass (🔍), representing the action of inspection, audit, and detailed review, which is the exact function of this page.
- Rename Analysis to Review to avoid the semantical ambiguity between Analysis and Statistics, immediately hinting to reviewing reports, one of this views the main features.
The second proposal could lead to effortful side-effects on the backend to align the terms, while the first one is a low-effort UI/UX improvement.
Enhancement Impact
The icon for each tab would intuitively represent its underlying function and content.
