Media: Move client-side media compat file to wordpress-7.1 directory#78852

Client-side media processing graduated from experimental during the 7.0 cycle but was not released in WordPress 7.0. Move the compat file to the wordpress-7.1 directory so it sits with the cycle the feature ships in, and update the require in load.php accordingly.

- I think gutenberg_block_editor_preload_paths_root_fields() should be moved to the 7.1 directory. Furthermore, has this filter been backported to core?
- Should these two files also be moved to the 7.1 directory?

let me double check, it should have been added, but possibly directly to the endpoint rather than as a filter.
probably. These are client side media related. I'm still a little unclear: is the criteria for putting code in these folders that "the code will be backported into a specific version of WP"? I'm going to research how these are used and look for documentation so I can better understand this. |

Extract gutenberg_block_editor_preload_paths_root_fields() into a new lib/compat/wordpress-7.1/preload.php. Client-side media processing was not released in WordPress 7.0, so this preload filter belongs in the 7.1 compat directory alongside the other client-side media compat code. The other functions in wordpress-7.0/preload.php are unrelated and stay in place.

I'll look at
lib/media/load.phpandgutenberg_enqueue_vips_loader()separately - those aren't currently in a compat directory at all, so relocating them is a slightly different question than the straight 7.0 → 7.1 move.
I agree. Moving these to the compat directory might be a bit complex, so let's address it in a follow-up if necessary.
