Not a strong opinion, but I think we could in the future orchestrate the site hub/site logo to be part of this transition in a way that seamlessly scales it into the "full" site logo that is visible in edit view. In that case, you would actually want to keep this "underlap". I wonder if another change is to remove the bg color below the site hub, so when it underlaps the W/Site Logo sticks in place? |

Yes that might work well, but it would apply only to the icon, not the entire 'hub'. I don't think the frame should ever underlap the site title / search icon? |

Agree, but perhaps they fade out in lockstep with you moving the resize handle leftwards? Same as the site logo scaling up in similar lockstep. |

Definitely an improvement. It's hard to see the impact on the toolbar because animation is currently broken on trunk. Approving for the sake of iteration!

Trade-off
There's a small trade-off: when you click to edit the document, the frame overlaps the document toolbar. But that should be fixed when #51903 is addressed.
