Your system information

  • Steam client version (build number or date): Steam Version: 1716584667
  • Distribution (e.g. Ubuntu): EndeavourOS
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Have you checked for system updates?: Yes
  • GPU: AMD RX7700XT

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

When having the SteamUI open sometimes on "close" it would either not close immediately and take very long till it closes or (very rarely) it would cause the whole Desktop Environment (KDE/X11) to "freeze" as well. However it doesn't really freeze it actually just becomes super slow and it seems like nothing is reacting anymore, though if you wait you'll notice that stuff you clicked on might sooner or later open. When killing the Steam Process via TTY everything works as it should again.
Checking the journal there are no warnings nor crashes. When running top during that happens steam also doesn't seem to use a lot of memory nor cpu.

Since it happens super randomly and also kinda rarely it seems to be impossible for me to reproduce it. So i can'T really provide any additional info on this and just hope someone else might have experienced the same and might be able to reproduce it.

I've also seen this happening using XFCE (also on X11) on Gentoo. I've noticed that it seems to lock up for a moment or two a couple times before the big freeze and it always seems to happen fairly soon after launching a game but I haven't seen any commonality beyond that.

I have a very similiar issue, probably the same one. Switched from XFCE to KDE because I thought it would be a fix, but it didn't. I have Steam Families Beta enabled and i've noticed that this issue may be linked to another issue related with Steam making you lose focus when using the system because of these window pop ups which are significantly bigger than a normal online activity notification:

After I see a bit of them, I cannot open any new window from my system (even file manager like Dolpin (Thunar in case of XFCE) and I must close Steam and open it up, so it works fine again.
Very likely your case and mine are related to #9561.

same thing , also on wayland: Arch.
When close the steam ui - system become slugish. After killing the process and reopen it works fine.
I disable all gpu acceleration and smoth scrolling etc. But still having some issues.
