Keeps NORMAL mode when text is selected using shift and arrow keys.

When I select text with SHIFT and arrow keys it says the mode is NORMAL, where it should be VISUAL mode.
edit: same for editor.action.smartSelect.shrink and editor.action.smartSelect.grow

Same for any commands that make block selections (e.g. expandLineSelection, Emmet: Balance (outward) on HTML, expand-region etc).

I find quite useful the editor.action.smartSelect.shrink and editor.action.smartSelect.grow. It would be nice if it would be able to delete or change selected text that way.

Just new to VS code, tried to port my Sublime Text setting to VSC, but this blocks me, apply "expand selection" then use 'd' or 'y' is such a easy way to make things faster.

I run into this problem as well. Usually in VSCode I would select a map or string etc and hit Control W to expand the selection and then I can put that in a parenthesis or a bracket by doing: Shift ( etc but with the Vim extension it still thinks I'm in Normal mode, not Insert mode.

As a beginner experimenting with Vim, the way I have to get around this is:
(Insert - Expand - MacOS Cut - back-to-normal-mode - insert - parenthesis - MacOS Paste)
i + Control-W + Cmd-X + Ctrl-{ + i + ( + Cmd-V

I can't do Control-W + Shift-( because then Vim-ext thinks I'm in normal mode and the selection is moved upwards and all I want to do is surround the text by parenthesis quickly.

Not sure how to solve this in a better way?
