I am merging this PR to fix #232 which partly reverse a prior commit that would allow for sharing the top and right labels -- which is currently possible but breaks the the twinned stuff. I am working on a more profound fix in #244 but this is taking more time and I don't want this issue to persist in the code. The fix in #244 should form the definitive fix but sharing of axes feels like playing a game of wac-a-mole: you fix one issue and 3 others pop up.
