Code formatting readme for IntelliJ: why still use the special plugin?

For IntelliJ, can we drop the clunky eclipse formatting plugin and replace it by this?

My IntelliJ (Enterprise, latest that exists) does not have this menu item.

That's interesting. I'm on the latest ultimate (2025.3.1) as well, but I do have that menu option...

Wanted to add a note here: I assume IntelliJ doesn't use the Eclipse formatter under the hood for imported Eclipse XML files. I also assume IntelliJ won't guarantee the same output as using the Eclipse formatter... With that in mind, do we want to risk people changing unrelated lines of code because they use the IntelliJ formatter vs the maven plugin?

I'm not sure how big this risk is in reality or if my assumption is correct, but in general, I'd be in favor of having the tools use the same formatter under the hood.
