Catalog Item to load additional catalog file?

I'm wanting to break up how our catalog files are managed.

I was thinking to do this with a member item that points to a separate terria config file.
The idea being some of these split out config files could be programmatically managed/generated, while keeping the 'main' file managed manually.

It's probably similar to how the Catalog Group items work, I was hoping the Stub Catalog Item was going to facilitate this but it's not what I thought it was #6136

I'm still checking things, but is there a way to facilitate this that someone knows?
