# FAQ

## How does the SysKit Insights Lite work?

SysKit Insights Lite discovery module relies on two things: 1. SysKit Insights Lite relies on Active Directory to reach the names/addresses of the computer. So, the permission to read from AD is required. 2. After that, it uses WMI to search the registry and collect all the data from the SharePoint servers. Classic WMI TCP/UDP ports are used.

## What is the connection between SysKit Insights Lite and SPDocKit Pulse?

SysKit Insights Lite is a successor to SPDocKit Pulse. SysKit Insights Lite retains all features of SPDocKit Pulse while adding a few more. SysKit Insights Lite is more optimized and performant. Unfortunately due to technical issues it is not possible to upgrade from SPDocKit Pulse to SysKit Insights Lite.

## Does the SysKit Insights Lite product have to be installed on a server or can I install it on my desktop?

SysKit Insights Lite can be installed either on a server or on a desktop. Actually, we recommend that you install it on a desktop in the same domain as the SharePoint servers that you wish to monitor.

## Does SysKit Insights Lite work from a workstation or the server?

SysKit Insights Lite works from a workstation as well as from a server. We recommend that you run it from a workstation.

## Is it possible to add a SharePoint farm manually to a SysKit Insights Lite dashboard?

Yes, you can manually add a SharePoint farm to a SysKit Insights Lite dashboard.

## Could you tell us the default thresholds for performance counters?

* CPU - If the value is above 85%, the server will be flagged as warning and if it is above 95%, the server will be flagged critical.
* Memory usage – If the server has less than 512MB free memory, it will be flagged as warning. If it has less than 256MB free memory, it will be flagged as critical.
* Disk usage – If the partition has less than 3GB of free space the server will be flagged as warning and if there is less than 1GB of free space, the server will be flagged as critical. This check is performed only for partitions larger than 5GB.

# SysKit Insights Lite 1.0.0

We’ve shipped **SysKit Insights Lite**! This is the newest addition to our line of products aimed at monitoring servers. SysKit Insights Lite is a free tool and we intend to keep it free. In recent turn of events, we decided to rebrand our products, including SPDocKit Pulse which became SysKit Insights Lite. Here’s our [official rebranding announcement](https://www.syskit.com/blog/rebranding-announcement-syskit).

SysKit Insights Lite was developed on the SPDocKit Pulse foundation to add significant performance and user interface improvements. Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade from SPDocKit Pulse to SysKit Insights Lite.

The tool is developed to discover **SharePoint servers, SQL servers and SQL AlwaysOn configurations**. In case the AutoDiscover job is unable to autodetect all your servers, you can manually add servers as well. For crawling multiple domains or just specific organizational units, use the tool to configure the AutoDiscover job feature according to user’s needs.

Once servers are discovered, SysKit Insights Lite will monitor basic server metrics such as **CPU** load, **memory**, **disk** and **network** usage.

**Product version:** 1.0.0
**Build number:** 528
**Release date:** Sep 6, 2017

[Click here to download the new release.](https://www.syskit.com/products/insights-lite/download)

## Features

* **Auto Discovery** - discover all SharePoint servers and farms, as well as SQL servers and SQL AlwaysOn configurations. SysKit Insights Lite will periodically crawl configured domains to discover new servers.
* **Domain Management** - This feature allows users to specify where to look for servers. Users can add multiple domains or/and specify Organizational Units for each domain.
* **Add servers manually** - If the auto discover job is not able to discover all servers in your domain, users can manually add servers. Additionally, users can create server groups \(SharePoint, SQL, Custom\) as well and monitor them.
* **Server Monitoring** - Monitor common server metrics for each discovered and added server. With the help of interactive tiles, detect Critical, Warning, Healthy and Offline state for each server. The state is calculated based on the collected values during the last 15 minutes. You can monitor the following metrics:
* CPU usage – Shows CPU utilization for the last 15 minutes. This value is in shown in percentage. If the value is above 85%, the server will be flagged as warning and if it is above 95%, the server will be flagged critical.
* Memory usage – Shows how much RAM your server is using. If the server has less than 512MB free memory, it will be flagged as warning. If it has less than 256MB free memory, it will be flagged as critical.
* Disk usage – Monitors Total I/O for disks on each server and free space on each partition. If the partition has less than 3GB of free space the server will be flagged as warning and if there is less than 1GB of free space, the server will be flagged as critical. This check is performed only for partitions larger than 5GB.
* Network usage – Monitors the total network usage across all network adapters on server.
* **Multiple visualization options** - SysKit Insights Lite comes with multiple views. The default **Tiles view** shows servers with collected metrics. If this view takes too much screen space, there is the **Compact view** which shows server names only. You can see the tile if you hover over the server name. The **Grid view** is more structured. You can re-arrange the views as follows:
* **Smart** - The default option, will group servers based on AutoDiscover. Servers are grouped by SharePoint farm, SQL AlwaysOn group and all SQL servers are grouped in a separate group.
* **Type** - Servers will be grouped by a certain type such as SharePoint Servers, SQL Servers, SQL AlwaysOn Servers groups.
* **Status** - Servers will be grouped by their status \(warning, critical, healthy, offline\).
* **None** - Servers will not be grouped.
