Notifications drop down

we need to do an unread/read and have some sort of notification system. maybe similar to android?

My thought is that we don't have kind of "queue" system for notifications. If you're offline, you get and email, if your online, you get notified in the ui. Beyond that, nothing.

I have 44 unread notification on github right now... This is because either I'm the one that caused the notification to happen, or I got an email about it. On-site notifications are useless.

Recording the thoughts on this...

What we want to do is maintain a list of notifications that the client has received, and probably only do so per-session and not across session. That way, if they didn't get a chance to read a notification, or if they looked away when the notification happened, etc., they can still see the notification there.
