3. Build spfx package
4. Upload package to sharepoint app catalog.

Expected behavior

Image set as App Icon in should be visible properly.

In modern UI behavior is slightly different. When we deploy/upload the package we see broken app icon. After deployment when we refresh the page, we are able to see app icon.

Hi @poladiaraj I tried to repro this and found something similar to the report:

On the modern page:

• Upload the SPPKG
• The app icon is broken (but the img tag is correct)
• If you choose not to enable, the icon never appears
• Once you enable the app, the icon appears

On a legacy page:

• Upload the SPPKG
• The icon seems to sometimes appear, but sometimes not appear. (This may be from caching/my testing, as it does not appear most times)
• After deploying, the icon will start appearing on the modern page.

It seems like the App Icon image is not being uploaded until the SPPKG is actually deployed.

After consulting with product team we've determined that this is in fact the expected behavior, as we do not deploy any ClientSideAssets until the SPPKG is enabled/deployed. We recognize this behavior is certainly annoying in the legacy UX. Please note that this issue does not affect the "add an app" functionality (/_layouts/15/appStore.aspx/myApps) as the app cannot appear there until it is deployed.

Please note that in the modern UX, if you aren't planning to deploy/enable the app anytime soon, you can also manually use a CDN icon by editing the "Properties" of the uploaded SPPKG.

We will keep this in our backlog for the future, however. We will explore some options to remedy this issue such as not attempting to display custom app icons until the sppkg has been fully enabled or allowing for cdn-based icons during package-solution.
