Error when modelingtoolkitizeing system with parameterized function as parameter #1524

Hello,

I'm trying to pass a forcing function to a system just as in the documentation. Then I'd like to modelingtoolkitize the system as it is shown here. But It seems to fail. Specifically, I have:

using DifferentialEquations, ModelingToolkit

# Forcing function
function forcing_function(t::Float64)
    return 5*t
end

ModelingToolkit.@register forcing_function(t)

# Scalar system
function scalar_system(u,p,t)
    a, ff = p
    (u .- p[1] .+ ff(t))
end

# Initial conditions, tspan and parameters
const u0_scalar = -75.0
const tspan = (0,40)
const p = [10, t -> forcing_function(t)]

# ODEProblem definition
scalar_prob     = ODEProblem(scalar_system, u0_scalar, tspan, p)

But when I do

scalar_sys = modelingtoolkitize(scalar_prob) 

I get:

So I tried to add @syms as requested:

# Scalar system
function scalar_system(u,p,t)
    a, ff = p
    @syms ff(t)
    (u .- p[1] .+ ff(t))
end

And now

scalar_sys = modelingtoolkitize(scalar_prob)
scalar_fast_prob = ODEProblem(scalar_sys, [u0_scalar], tspan, p)

works. But it fails when I solve:

solve(scalar_fast_prob)

Resulting in a different error:

I get the same error using an in-place system.

I think this issue is related to #197 and #929 .

Is there any way to get around this? Or is one forced to pass such time-varying parameters by other means (e.g. closures or callbacks)?
