Matlab scripts to process sondes and estimate air-water fluxes and flux coefficients.

CK requires SST data. Folder SST_data contains daily 0.25 x 0.25 deg OISST data for each date included in the track file for each hurricane. Data were retrieved from https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/sea-surface-temperature-optimum-interpolation/v2.1/access/avhrr/. Data include all storms up to end of 2021.

Dropsodne data were retrieved from https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/data-products/#hurricanedata. All sondes up to end of 2020 are included. Some but not all 2021 sondes were available as of 3/9/2022.

Hurricane track data is downloaded from the yearly hurricane data pages e.g. https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/2020-hurricane-field-program-data/, under each hurricane's name is a file named 'Wind Center Track'. All tracks up to end of 2021 included. Select storms tracks missing from the archive (Nana2020).

Best track data is used for RMW and Vmax. TCOBS data is 1-h resolution and is availble up to 2018. Extended best track (EBT, provided by Dan Chavas in .mat format) data has 6-h resolution and is available up to 2020 in separate files for Atlantic, central Pacific, east Pacific.

In total we have 15420 dropsondes available. 9157 meet our criteria (data below 150 m, R/RMW < 10).
