I think the current spacing can be the default but have options in settings to adjust it.
I personally find it a bit too small, there's some vertical space available for use and to make it look less tight
I would like to second this. A customizable icon size, paddings and maybe adding a max width option for the grid layout centered on the screen is more than needed. I want my apps to be set in 12 columns due to some logic how I've arranged them in order, but tracking 12 columns on apps across the entire width of the screen is just way too overwhelming. Whereas, if I could set a custom max width on the grid container, or being able to manually lower the icon sizes and paddings between columns and rows, I could perfectly fine tune the grid just the way I like it.
P.S On the native Launchpad I was always editing the number of columns and rows via terminal to achieve my desired amount of apps visible at once, and Launchpad's grid max width never changed based on the number of columns I added, it just made the icons smaller.
It would be nice to have options to customize the spacing and padding
