iOS delayed by 3-5 seconds to initialize and open barcode reader view #319
nuget version:
0.10.3 Test device:
iPhone 17 Pro iOS version:
26.6 Issue:
Android loads the scanner extremely quickly. iOS appears to be taking 3-5 seconds to load the camera view. The phone shows the green indicator light to show the camera is in use, then takes 3-5 seconds before completing navigation to the new page. To reproduce:
difficult to see, but it does appear to affect the current BigIslandBarCode app, just hidden by the loading splash.
I downloaded the source code, then added a page with a button and set that page as the NavigationPage in App.xaml.cs. The button navigates to MainPage.xaml.
Update:
Had some time to look into this, here's what I found: CameraManager.ios.maccatalyst.cs UpdateCamera(bool startIfStopped)
-captureSession.StartRunning() is taking around 500ms each time it is run. CameraManager.ios.maccatalyst.cs Connect()
Runs UpdateCamera(startIfStopped: true), but the initializing options run UpdateCamera() after that approx 4 times.
By changing where startIfStopped is set to true from _CameraManager.ios.maccatalyst.cs Connect() to CameraBarcodeReaderViewHandler.cs MapVisibility(CameraBarcodeReaderViewHandler handler, ICameraBarcodeReaderView cameraBarcodeReaderView), It ran captureSession.StartRunning() on the last applied setting and It reduced the time to initially open by a few seconds
