NumFOCUS updates and communication plans

Hi all,

We are now officially a NumFOCUS project: https://numfocus.org/project/data-table.

This is really exciting news for our long-term sustainability! NumFOCUS gives us a clearer donation structure, and a lot of internal support for things like events, fundraising, marketing, etc.

I encourage everyone to join the NumFOCUS mailing list and follow them on BlueSky or LinkedIn to stay looped in on what they are up to. :)

Anyone wanting NumFOCUS structural support on a data.table-related venture (e.g. applying for funding, planning an event, etc.) can submit a ticket at http://support.numfocus.org/, and of course we encourage you to open an Issue here as well.

Questions for Committers only:

1. From time to time we'll need to communicate internally rather than on a GitHub Issue. (For example, about things like Code of Conduct violations or financial decisions.). What would be the best way for us to do that? Maybe we can set up an email Google Group?

2. There are many internal monthly update emails from the various NumFOCUS subgroups (OpenSci, Fundraising, Events). We also have a Google Drive with all the formal paperwork for this. Let me know if you'd like to be included on any of those.

3. NumFOCUS can provide some accounts for us, including: GSuite, Zoom, AWS. They can also provide domain names and trademarking help. Can you think of a use for any of those? (@jangorecki has suggested asking about a website analytics service like plausible.io; we'll ask about that in our next meeting.)

Google Groups sounds good, I just created one with all current committers and Kelly, you should have an invite (let me know if not).

We have Github Devcontainers currently linked to my account AFAIK (to date, the total marginal cost is $0), it might be nice to link that to NumFOCUS instead.

Just FYI, I think that the link to the NumFOCUS donation link is broken in the Github README. If I understand correctly, that would allow me to donate to data.table directly, correct?

Thanks for the heads up and interest! I will investigate the broken link. @kbodwin I think we need to look into this.

And yes, NumFOCUS handles the administration of the donations but yes, the donation goes to the development team (NumFOCUS takes a very small percentage for admin, but need to check the exact amount).

Sorry, I thought I had updated that everywhere once we got the real link.

#7059 fixes this.

Admin percent is 10%, but it comes with an enormous amount of structural support and access to other funding sources, so we feel it's very worth it. :)
