Hey, I'm Ritwick 👋

I'm a Mathematics student at the University of British Columbia building web applications and exploring how networks work underneath them.

My focus is backend and full-stack development, with a growing interest in networking, systems, and application security. I learn by building things, following questions into the implementation, and occasionally turning “that looks interesting” into an entire project.

Selected projects

A DNS resolver built in Java, exploring iterative resolution, DNS packet encoding and parsing, nameserver referrals, and CNAME handling. A dive into what happens between asking for a domain name and getting an IP address.

A deployed full-stack blog built with Node.js, Express, Prisma, and React, with authentication and workflows for creating, editing, and publishing posts.

Live reader

A message board built with Express, PostgreSQL, and EJS. Implements session-based authentication and membership permissions that control access to author information.

Open source

Pino — merged contribution #2504
Added browser logger support for bindings() and setBindings(), including child logger behavior and tests.

Tools I've worked with

  • Languages: JavaScript, Java, SQL, HTML, CSS
  • Web: React, Node.js, Express, EJS
  • Data: PostgreSQL, Prisma
  • Development: Git, Linux, REST APIs, authentication, automated testing

What I'm exploring next

  • Building fluency with TypeScript through Full Stack Open.
  • Learning containers and CI/CD by applying them to projects.
  • Planning a real-time messaging application using React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and WebSockets.

Most of my repositories document learning in public: from early web exercises to deployed applications, open-source contributions, and protocol-level experiments.
