#SoftwareEngineer

#2017

The company offered the role of an associate engineer in two departments namely Software and Hardware.

I sat for the Software role.

Round 1

This is the online round. There were multiple choice questions mainly from C, C++, OOPs, DS, OS and aptitude. Technical MCQs were a bit easy, general questions from pointers, classes, and code snippet outputs were asked. The Aptitude section was tricky though.

Around 45 students qualified for the PI

PI had 3 rounds, two technical and finally a HR round.

Round 2 (F2F - Technical)

I was quite unlucky as my interviewer knew nothing but OS!

So the interview questions were as follows:

--> Tell me about yourself

--> What are deadlocks? How to handle deadlocks?

-->Name some Cache? How to implement cache?

--> Explain LRU cache.

-->differentiate between OS and Kernel.

--> tell me about your summer project - this went on for a while, after this he went on to some DS questions:

--> Write the code for cycle detection in Linked List.

--> Explain algorithm of merge sort, how can it be done in a linked list.

That's it, though he didn't look satisfied, I was called for the next round.

Round 3 (F2F- Technical)

In this round, I was lucky enough as the interviewer was a NIT Dgp Alumni. This round went past more like a conversation and chatting rather than a technical question-answer session.

It started with the very old "Tell me about yourself", I spoke for like 10 mins straight and he was enjoying my stories. He got interested in my 3rd-year college projects and discussion went on about my project. He asked me how can I extend my project further or how can it be made into a software product in future. This went on for like another 15 mins.

After this, he asked some very easy coding questions

--> write code for bubble sort.

-->write code to find the middle element in linked list.

--> Write an algorithm for deleting a node in a BST.

I don't know how but after this he got carried away into discussing things about NIT Durgapur and how it has changed over the years :)

He looked very happy at the end of the interview.

Round 4 (HR)

This round too was mostly chatting with the interviewer.

It again started with the "Tell me about yourself" and then the questions were as follows:

--> You are from a business background, why shift to service?

--> what does our company do?

--> why our company?

--> In a project team, you see yourself as a team member or the team leader? Why?

--> What are your domain preferences?

--> what are your hobbies? What sports do you like?

--> What are the other companies you are targeting?

That's it, most tiring was the wait between the interview rounds, it went on for the whole day as there were so many students to be interviewed.

The worst part was that they announced the results 3 days after the interview, but it was worth the wait, I got selected. :P
