The longer a Nether portals exists, the more it corrupts and changes the environment on the other side #17
Overworld stuff ends up in the nether, nether stuff ends up in the overworld. This creates a "bleeding" effect for both sides that's a little interesting and can help show age of portal.
Can only replace natural blocks, however.
