Description of the app's functionality
Installation works.
Initial set-up and opening an ISA or savings account works.
Adding money to account does NOT work. It will give you a generic connection error. (See below for details.)
Withdrawing money works (see below for details).
Are there any extra notes you think users should know about?
Workaround for adding money: Install the app on a stock device. You also need to have your main bank's app installed. Then, click on "add" and it will request to connect to your bank account via Open Banking (this is why the other bank app needs to be installed too). After the first time you add money, you can go on "add" and you'll see a second option: manual bank transfer. This gives you the account no, sort code and unique reference number to send money to your Chip account from your normal bank account. The unique reference number doesn't change so it should be possible to make a note of the details and use it any time you want to add money to the Chip account. Alternatively, you'll be able to add a debit card for adding money in the profile settings later on.
For withdrawals, this is also done via Open Banking (i.e. connection to the bank account). Generally, you can only authorise an Open Banking connection for 90 days, so it's possible that you'll need to use a "stock" device with the Chip app every 90 days to re-authorize this connection. Or, you can contact Chip's customer service team via the app, or email "hello@getchip.uk" and they will do manual anti-fraud checks to allow you to withdraw.
I haven't tested it with Play Services, so it's possible that the whole "connect your Chip app to your main bank's app" problem goes away then.
