Computing marginal tax rates

The calc_mtr function is a method of the IndividualSim object. However, suppose that I've created a Microsimulation object because I want to simulate a tax reform for a large number of individuals in a micro dataset. Is there a way I can use the calc_mtr function without creating a whole new IndividualSim object?

I suppose I can just use the MicroSimulation.deriv function for this... Was confused when looking at docs as only example was for IndividualSim and no other results pop up when searching code for mtr.
