What is the usage of PHPWord?

This is not an issue but just questions on usage. What is PHPWord used for by an end user? I used Composer to fetch it but I don't see a directory with examples. Are there example usages online? Is it a web application? If it is, what does the interface look like.

How do you open and edit a document? All the installation and usage information seem aimed at development.
