GRASS 8.4.2 Intel GUI crash

Describe the bug

The GRASS 8.4.2 Intel GUI crashes without opening on Macbook (1.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 / Intel UHD Graphics 617 1536 MB) with OS Sonoma 14.8.3. The GUI initially appears to be launching until the screen is clicked, then the launch window disappears and application says "Not responding." GRASS is still active and can be used through the terminal.

To reproduce

1. On Mac with Intel, download GRASS 8.4.2 Intel
2. Open GRASS-8.4.app
3. Terminal says "Launching GUI in the background, please wait..." and GRASS opening gui appears but gui never launches
4. The GUI icon says "Application not responding," can force quit and relaunch with g.gui wxpython (same error happens)
5. GRASS is still active and can be used in terminal

Expected behavior

Expected GUI to open upon launching GRASS or running g.gui wxpython

Just a note, when we tested it, we could run GUI tools such as g.gui.datacatalog, but not anything which uses ctypes.

Hmm… maybe there is some system log message you can check with /Applications/Utilities/Console.app.

@jilliangreene Could you perhaps try to start GRASS again and check in /Applications/Utilities/Console.app for some related message?
