"The Year Zero" achievement fails to trigger after beating Dimension of the Past

The year zero achievement didn't trigger when I completed the Dimension of the Past episode. I thought it was because I started from e5m3 after playing the first few maps in nightdive quake, and it seems that is a problem, but others who had the same issue were able to trigger the achievement by speeding through a New Game using cheats. That didn't work for me in vkQuake but did in nightdive quake, I assume the achievement will never trigger in vkQuake.

I should mention this is using the rerelease launch option with the latest steam files, nothing else.

I think the achievements are triggered from QuakeC so this might be tricky.

IIRC, the re-release achievements have never been supported in vkquake or quakespasm or ironwail.

Is the mentioned achievement a progress blocker or something, or just a useless nicety?

'steam' support imported from Ironwail should bring acheivments and such yeah....Still a nicety indeed, that i can't test myself because i don't have Steam . For what I read on Reddit Quake some acheivements are quite difficult to catch maybe it is one of those.

I don't understand how achievements could work, in either vkQuake or Ironwail.

The only thing I see in the code is the Client reading svc_achievement from CL_ParseServerMessage() but nowhere in the code the Server is setting svc_achievement. How could it work, unless playing in Multiplayer where the Server is the KEX engine ?

Right, Looking at the QuakeC 2021 re-release source code, I see achievements are indeed set from Server-side QuakeC with such calls:

WriteByte (MSG_ALL, SVC_ACHIEVEMENT);
WriteString(MSG_ALL, "ACH_COMPLETE_R2M8");

In the QuakeC 2021 source code : quake-rerelease-qc I find the following reference to a Year Zero achievement (E5END level):

It needs the CVAR campaign to be set to trigger.

Is there anything more to do here @mrmangohands except starting the Campaign from the begining (whatever that means). There is nothing apparently wrong on the code side.
