They must be in the package if they are to be run on Heroku.
They’re required to build the site, which means they’ll have to be in the dependencies, yo!

This branch successfully deploys to Heroku — it’s online at node-dc.herokuapp.com (and eventually, if we decide it’s good enough, at our .com address.
Had to do a bunch of shuffling around to get the app to deploy — check it.
