Aino is chair of the program committees for many of the worldwide GOTO/QCon conferences, where she also sometimes gives talks. She teaches CS and how to teach at the university of Aarhus, Denmark. She also facilitates meetings and retrospectives, mostly in IT but also in other domains. She aims to be a metadeveloper; developing developers by teaching, facilitating, and creating good programs for IT conferences. Her PhD thesis was about the interplay between OO design patterns and the development of OO languages.
I'm an author, speaker, consultant, and general loud-mouth on software development. I concentrate on designing enterprise software - looking at what makes a good design and what practices are needed to come up with good design. I've been a pioneer of various topics around object-oriented technology and agile methods, and written several books including "Refactoring", "NoSQL Distilled", and "Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture". Yury Izrailevsky serves as VP of Cloud Computing and Platform Engineering at Netflix, where he responsible for the product infrastructure development and operations, and the company’s big data and analytical platform. Cloud technology has been fundamental in supporting the fast growth of the Netflix streaming product, and is the technical foundation for the company’s global expansion. Prior to Netflix, Yury managed the Search Engine Core group at Yahoo, and oversaw the development of the Yahoo Data Warehouse. Yury has held various other engineering and management positions in several Silicon Valley companies, specializing in distributed systems, security and artificial intelligence. He has published several research papers and was awarded patents in the area of distributed systems.
Dr. Werner Vogels is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amazon where he is responsible for driving the company's technology vision, which is to continuously enhance the innovation on behalf of Amazon's customers at a global scale.
Prior to joining Amazon, he worked as a research scientist at Cornell University where he was a principal investigator in several research projects that target the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems. He has held positions of VP of Technology and CTO in companies that handled the transition of academic technology into industry.
Vogels holds a Ph.D. from the Free University in Amsterdam and has authored many articles for journals and conferences, most of them on distributed systems technologies for enterprise computing.
Simon Wardley, based in the UK, is a Researcher for CSC’s Leading Edge Forum, a global research and advisory programme that explores new thinking and develops next practice roadmaps that address the major challenges at the intersection of business, IT and management. Simon’s focus is on the intersection of IT strategy and new technologies, and his most recently published research (December 2012), is entitled Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts: Strategies for an Increasingly Open Economy. Simon has also recently covered topics including Learning from Web 2.0 and A Lifecycle Approach to Cloud Computing
Simon has spent the last 15 years defining future IT strategies for companies in the FMCG, Retail and IT industries. From Canon’s early leadership in the cloud computing space in 2005, to Ubuntu’s recent dominance as the No 1 Cloud operating system. He is a passionate advocate and researcher in the fields of open source, commoditization, innovation, organizational structure and cybernetics.
As a geneticist with a love of mathematics and a fascination in economics, Simon has always found himself dealing with complex systems, whether it’s in behavioural patterns, environmental risks of chemical pollution, developing novel computer systems or managing companies. He is a passionate advocate and researcher in the fields of open source, commoditization, innovation, organizational structure and cybernetics.
Simon is a regular presenter at conferences worldwide, and was voted as one of the UK's top 50 most influential people in IT in ComputerWeekly’s 2012 and 2011 polls.

He has been awarded 16 U.S. and international patents in diverse fields and has been showcased in numerous global broadcasts, print and online publications. He has a Bachelors and Masters in Computer Science from Cornell University and UW-Madison respectively, and has completed Executive Education at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne.
