How to Install ADSM
This is the development version of the installation guide. It will need to be updated if we decide to use a self extracting executable.
Download the Compressed Folder of ADSM by clicking on the link below:
Be advised this is a very large file >500MB and it will probably take at least 10 minutes to download on a cable modem. It is not recommended that you download this file over slow connections like Dial-up Modems.
Once the download is finished, open your download folder. Finding your download folder is browser specific, but Windows 7 defaults to the User folder called "Downloads" which is listed in the sidebar of File Explorer.
Chrome has a small arrow next to each file that brings up a file menu. Select "Show in Folder".
In Internet Explorer, when you click the download link, a prompt will come up. Select "Save" or "Save As", do not use the "Open" option. When the file has finished downloading, an orange bar shows up at the bottom with a "Open Folder". Use this to get to the zip file.
Once you've opened up your download folder, find the file SpreadModel.zip and move it to the location you want to install ADSM. Your Dekstop or Documents folders are easy locations to choose.
Right click on the zip file and select "Extract All..." from the mouse menu.
Windows will bring up an Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window. The default settings look like this and work well in this case, so just click the "Extract" Button.
Windows will decompress a very large folder (approximately 1.5GB). This process took 18 minutes on my computer. Make sure you have sufficient disk space on the hard drive you are putting ADSM on.
Now you have a folder with everything you need installed on your computer. Run (double click) ADSM.exe inside of the new SpreadModel folder and it will launch the program.
On some machines, a Windows Firewall prompt will appear. Make sure to click "Allow Access".
The first thing to open will be the terminal. This is the server that hosts ADSM and can usually be ignored, just don't close it.
Finally, the main window will open up on the ADSM home screen and you can begin creating your scenario.
