The Future of JoltNotes

What's the future for JoltNotes?

JoltNotes is undergoing a significant remodeling, focusing on a more streamlined and efficient development approach.
This "remodeling" primarily involves overhauling my existing codebase. I'm moving away from older coding techniques that have made it challenging to locate and implement changes or new features. This modernization will greatly improve my ability to develop and maintain the project.

Beyond the technical aspects, I'm also re-evaluating my vision for JoltNotes. Currently, I have three distinct versions: the original JoltNotes (which is no longer in active development and hasn't been publicly released), JoltminiNotes (untouched for several months), and JoltNotes Lite (my only application in active development).

Moving forward, all existing versions of JoltNotes, including the web version, will be considered legacy.

You can expect a new version of JoltNotes Lite to be released within the next few weeks. This new release will also come with a name change, simplifying it to just JoltNotes.

I am revising two of these versions, JoltNotes Lite(which is turning into JoltNotes) and JoltNotes WEB(which you could find on my website). Expect these updates/revisions within the next few months, and every Friday I will release a Dev Log on my website and possibly my Youtube.

Thank you for choosing JoltNotes and we appreciate your feedback!

📱 Fixed Formatting issues

Previously formatting wouldn't save, however I believe I've fixed this issue!

◀️Menu Button

The menu button (<) is working! However it doesn't do much at the moment, press it and it opens up a new screen like the settings menu with two buttons:

  • settings
  • notes

This is only like this for some testing purposes, these buttons currently don't work and this will not be the final product

📱Mobile Compatibly

While a standalone build is planned for moblie, for the time being my website provides a web version of JoltNotes. This web version will be updated to match most features in the main application. Please be patient while I test and deploy this updates in the coming weeks.

🎨Themes

Three new themes have been added:

  • Earth Green
  • Red Velvet
  • Watermelon Vibes

These three new themes were created for the summer season and I do not intend on adding more until the fall.(Around August)

End of Support

This "release" message will mark the day for end of support for JoltNotes. However I am working on a new, redefined projects called Jolt. It's pretty much a remake of JoltminiNotes, not sure if I'll be doing anything but that yet. Stay tuned on my socials and website to keep up on any info on Jolt. Cheers!

JoltNotes Lite v0.1.4-alpha.0

Pre-release

Whats changed in v0.1.4-alpha.0

1. Added "Mini Jolt"

  • Added a "Mini Jolts" window, acting like a sticky note
    • By pressing "Command+s" on Mac, you will open a Mini Jolt window. This window acts like a sticky note, and behaves exactly like JoltminiNotes.
    • The notes do NOT save, meaning it also does not load any notes.
    • I wanted that sticky note feel, so its always on top of your applications so you could always see it.

2. Removed Windows Build

  • Removed the Windows build, currently has a issue trying to find the icon file, which does not allow the app to open.

At this time you could open as many windows as you would like, note that this may cause performance issues on some lower end machines.

JoltNotes Lite v0.1.2-alpha.0

29 Apr 17:52

Choose a tag to compare

Pre-release

In JoltNotes Lite v0.1.2-alpha.0 I changed three things!

Topmost Altered

The windows topmost is no longer always true, meaning before you wouldn't be able to hide it by just pressing off the application. Now it will become topmost when it opens, but then shortly after the topmost becomes flase so then you could hide it by pressing off the application.

Saving Method Changed

The notes no longer save after every keystroke, instead after every second on inactivity the note will save.

Resizeable Window Fixed

In v0.1.1-alpha.0 I accidentally made the window resizeable, which is not what I want for JoltNotes Lite at this time.

This release of JoltNotes Lite is built for Intel Macs ONLY, and has only been tested on "Sequoia" and "Monterey"

I plan on making this application have more features such as:

  • Side bar for multiple notes
  • Make the UI highly customizable
  • Allow drawing on the note textbox
