[Bug]: File deletion on going back

What happened?

When having a file open:

1. Clicking in the top left name input field the built-in keyboard opens.
2. By clicking the android back button one time the keyboard closes but the input field is still focused.
3. By clicking the back button again the app goes back to the homescreen (as it should).

But now the file I was working on is deleted! I can't find it in the app UI or in the internal storage of the device.
Any way of getting my file back?

Thanks for reporting this, and I’m sorry about the data loss.

I was able to identify the cause: in version 2.5.3, leaving the document while the title field is focused can trigger the rename logic, which may delete the existing file without saving a replacement.

This behavior was fixed by commit 3663580 and is included in 2.6.0-beta.0. I’ll also look into backporting the fix to a 2.5.x patch because this can cause data loss.

Unfortunately, Butterfly does not currently keep deleted files in a recycle bin. Recovery would only be possible through an Android/device backup, an exported copy, or the version history/trash of a configured remote storage.

Please avoid renaming documents in 2.5.3 for now, or update to 2.6.0-beta.0 or newer.
