If you see the preferences dialog after pressing ctrl+k when you usually get a useless white screen, then you are likely on the latest version of wine and need to downgrade.
I'm on arch, so I did this using the handy downgrade aur package sudo downgrade wine and I selected version 9.6, since that is what the author recomended. I added wine to my ignorepkg for good measure (so that my system upgrade pacman -Syu does not upgrade wine again, this will depend on your distro/package manager). I only really use wine for photoshop anyway, so this doesn't harm my workflow.
