I hope this can be understood in the correct context, but think about how a new user see the program for the very first time.
It is quite overwhelming.
What about this:
welcome
It is clean and set focus on the first item most users would like to test/ play with emediately :
The piano!
It also has information about lmms on the net, and it is not cluttered with a lot of windows.

So now if The the user press a key
The sound is chocking -> horrid
I would suggest a nice musical sound, just as if the user has bought a new piano
Try this setting

default better sound

'negated envelope' and compare to lmms current default
Surely the suggested setting in ENV gives a better instrumental feeling?
Observe the serious reduced volume!

Wouldn't a new user get a better musical impression from the program

Btw look at the timing-gadget
New default projects weirdly shows negative time

Agreed that our default template isn't very useful.

Project notes shouldn't advertise any sites IMO.

Maybe a little "first run" dialog with useful links?

Or something like:

Hi there!
Welcome to LMMS, a free and opensource electronic music production
environment.
We hope you'll enjoy your ride. If you encounter any problems or have any
questions, suggestions or feedback, feel free to contact our friendly
community at http://lmms.io
May the sound be with you!

Chances are the user has already been to lmms.io if they are using the software.

In fact, some people ask me where to download the latest version...

Anyway, I think the current default is not so bad, since it shows all the kinds of tracks. The 3OSC default preset can be changed, but instead of having a "welcome" note, it would be fine to have a "lessons" section, just like ableton, with a lot of screenshots to display where things are...

The first lesson should be about the GUI and should be translated into all languages (so it should be more-pics-less-talk), then we should have "lessons files" which can be downloaded from the LSP and eventually added to the program itself.

Should I make an issue about it?

We already have a 'lessons' section, its called documentation: https://lmms.io/documentation/Getting_Started

Well ok, just saying... I only see that people find very convenient to have a tutorial just in the same program window... Not everybody likes to read a lot. But it's just my opinion

I have just answered 'questions' of how to get different notes in PiRoll :p
Its quite easy to find good 'literature' about that in our wiki 🙏

Thing is, I'm running some tutorials in Italian on my channel, and 2 different users couldn't find where to add plugin instruments, even if I showed it on my video.

Of course it's kinda stupid... As a user, you must have your way into the program, but a sort of initial lessons that asks you to move your mouse to the instrument tab could be a step foreward for some of these users... You know, Ableton does it, and it's gotten ridicously popular xD

But again, when I'll be able to program, I'll do these strange ideas of mine, right now we have much more interesting features to develop and a mac version to finalize!
