How does one do picking for Volumes ?

I will be taking this up for implementation, but it will be a side gig for me and might take some time. Thank you for you patience 🙏. The high-level idea is to emulate what VTK C++ is currently doing for 3D volume picking. i.e. Use a picking pass in the volume renderer (enable a uniform in the shader) to cast a ray and compute the voxel that is at a specific opacity threshold, say 1/3 or 1/2 of fully opaque. And that voxel will be our selection.
