Global search OSM

Maybe I am missing something but I can’t find how to add a global Open street map search. I can search using the contextual menu > Search OpenStreetMap but I can’t search places that already exist in OSM’s data. I think that can be nice to be able to search for places at least to navigate through the maps and add layers of data to existing recordings.

At the moment I think it's possible by adding this plugin:
https://github.com/stefanocudini/leaflet-search
and connecting it to a generic geocoder OSM for example.

it was deactivated some versions ago because a unique search also of the places registered in kepler has not yet been developed

Come to think, what if it could do this?
