Thanks, this looks reasonable. There are some cases where only partial unrolling is performed but maybe it's not worth complicating this with such detail.

This PR adds a couple of brief sections to the manual about why (and why not) to use static arrays, since that isn't obvious to many users. Based on this discourse post.
