Project
This project is called Second Hands Market on Campus (SHMC), which is an online marketplace that is exclusive to university student. This project allows students to sell used furniture, clothes and books, enables university departments to sell outdated infrastructures like chairs or desks, devices like computer screen or memory and unused library books. College students can buy any second hands stuff from both students and university department. The main goal of this project is to increase reuse on campus by providing an effective platform within students’ campus community and reducing trade time among buyer and seller.
In these project, there are three types of roles: individual seller, individual buyer and university department seller. Students with education email can register as individual users, they can change their role in this website, which means a student can be both individual sellers and buyers, but never the same time. To be a university department seller, staff in department should apply to prove he or she have right to sell public unused infrastructures and devices.
Users without logging in can see products posted and department selling activities held recently on the home page. They can go through the description of these items, watch the picture, price and history review. They can also search wanted product on search page. However, when it comes to posting a new item or activities notification, or placing an order of any item, or attending a selling activities, users need to log in the website.
After logging in, individual buyer and seller can talk to each other on the item webpage, then they will make a meeting appointment to check the wanted item. After checking the product from individual seller, if buyer decide to buy it, he or she should place an order and pay it online, then the item on the website will not show up, the order will become history order, and this trade is marked as finished. What’s more, an individual buyer can also create wishing list containing items he or she want to buy through the platform. Once a seller post new product associated to the wishing list, buyer will get a notification including information of selling item from system.
Besides, there would be plenty of unused public infrastructures, devices and books for department staff to dispose. After staff logging in as university department seller, he or she can post selling activities to dispose these products. On the activity webpage, there could be description, price, and quantity of each item, time and place of the activities. Individual buyer could place an order of these items, then system will give them electronic tickets to these activities. According to these tickets, buyer can go to the appointed place to select their products.
As a college student, buying new books or furniture always takes a lot of money, so purchasing second hands product would be a better way for freshmen to consider. However, it is tedious to search and combine information through Facebook groups, and sometime the selling information is not up-to-date, people usually have to wait a long time to get their wanted product. What’s more, when people choose eBay to buy second hands item, it usually takes plenty of time to wait used books or furniture being delivered to your hands.
As a result, we need a platform serving as a marketplace providing convenient medium for seller and buyer to post or search information, which also reduces time on delivering products.
On the home page, the website provides up-to-date item and selling activities held recently by university departments. Besides, users can use search bar to search their wanted books or furniture, or go to the search page for the detail search. At this page, we could add Google map API, to allow students to select their university on map.
On the buyer profile page, buyers can create wishing list of their wanted items, then they will get notification from system once associated item is sold on line.
On the item page, there is information of item, which includes images, price, description and quantity of the item. On this page, we could handle trade between individual buyer and seller. This page would use SnapEngage Chat API to support online chatting for buyer and seller. We could also use Paypal API to support online payment.
On the activities page, there could be description, price, and quantity of each item, time and place of the activities. On this page, we could depose the trade between among university department and individual buyers. This page also use Paypal API to support online payment.
Above pages would achieve the mainly functional requirement of the problems, other pages still need to be added when handling new features.
