No. This is required for Met Office specific applications only.

@yaswant Can you help me understand the need for shumlib? Is this something that was needed for the UM only, not for lfric/lfric-lite? If so, when can we remove it from spack-stack? Thanks!

@climbfuji thats right. However ops-um-jedi is not redundant just yet. Is shumlib proving difficult in your stack? If not, then please can we keep it for the moment? We use the Jedi containers here from time to time to test/compare.

It's not difficult to keep. We are using a branch that sits in my fork, because the original shumlib commit had serious flaws that prevented building it on macOS and with most compilers except the one used by default (gnu?). We were never able to merge those changes back. But if the lifetime of this packages is limited to another year or so, we can continue doing what we did for the last two years and use my fork/branch.

Thanks @climbfuji . Looking at metomi/shumlib#1 have you tested the latest changes on Mac? We are currently using um13.0 tag in our stack, could you please try that and update your shumlib PR? I'll then remind @jennyhickson to merge any changes if required.
