Differences between MFF2 and DFN8, VQFN8

Different names, same physical chip in package.
MFF2 is the Telecom application name of the DFN8/VQFN8 package.
DFN8/VQFN8 is the Industrial application name for packages having 8 contacts on 2 opposite sides (Dual).
DFN8 vs VQFN: VQFN is the IFX naming with very thin package.

  • MFF2 is specified by ETSI TS102671
  • DFN/VQFN is specified by JEDEC standard

WARNING: MFF2 vs DFN/VQFN have different contact numbering conventions:

Pin Number
Contact Number(TS 102 671) Contact Name(as per TS102671)
Pin 8 C1 Vcc
Pin 7 C2 RST
Pin 6 C3 CLK
Pin 5 C4 Not Connected
Pin 1 C5 Vss - GND
Pin 2 C6 SWIO
Pin 3 C7 I/O
Pin 4 C8 Not Connected

MFF2 pinout indexing specified in ETSI TS102671 (see upper table, middle row) is not complying to the JEDEC standard.
This is creates confusion.
Consequently the correct pinout is:

Pin Number
Contact Name
Pin 1 GND
Pin 2 SWIO
Pin 3 IO0
Pin 4 Not
Pin 5 Not
Pin 6 CLK
Pin 7 RST
Pin 8 Vcc
