email validator not working on sign up

Observed on https://demo.dataverse.org running 4.7.1 build 94-62f8987 if you leave the email address blank and click "Create Account" the page gives no feedback. I assume the user wasn't created. You certainly aren't logged in.

Judging from what I'm seeing on my laptop (different branch), DataverseUserPage.save is throwing a bean validation error: Caused by: javax.validation.ConstraintViolationException: Bean Validation constraint(s) violated while executing Automatic Bean Validation on callback event:'prePersist'. Please refer to embedded ConstraintViolations for details.
