ParOSol-UoS

Introduction

ParOSol

ParOSol stands for PARallel Octree SOLver.

It is a fully-parallel micro-FE analysis code based on Octree to solve linear elasticity problems. Because it works on equal sized voxel geometry, it solves the problem direct on 3D images, which can be obtained by CT scans.

At the time of the publication of this repository, the original ParOSol (as described in the PhD Thesis of C. Flaig) was not publicly available.

ParOSol TU Wien

ParOSol TU Wien is a fork of the original ParOSol code. It comprises the following changes relative to the original ParOSol code:

  1. The code now works with a consistent system of units (m and Pa or mm and MPa).
  2. The Poisson ratio that is read from the input HDF5 data is used, not the hard coded one.
  3. The ParOSol output is formatted like ParFE output (but only to the level needed by the postprocessing tools used at ILSB TU Wien.)

Note that the data format used by the original ParOSol is not compatible with ParOSol TU Wien. The changes in code have been tested well at the ILSB TU Wien, but are provided without warranty of any kind.

ParOSol-UoS

ParOSol-UoS (the code supplied here) is a snapshot of modifications made to ParOSol TU Wien at the University of Sheffield. The changes made are described below:

To make the code compile correctly:

  1. Deactivated the option to use parallel HDF5 functionality in src/CMakeLists.txt,
  2. In relevant source files, added a space between successive ">"-s when using nested template classes.

For the purposes of code verification:

  1. Implemented the ability to read boundary conditions for the bodyforce and tractions separately. This reflects also changes expected in the hdf5 input file format, where additional datasets named "Bodyforce_Coordinates", "Bodyforce_Values", "Tractions_Coordinates" and "Tractions_Values" can be defined. These datasets have a structure analogous to that of existing force boundary conditions.
  2. Modified files in the root and doc folder to reflect above changes and to update external links to the date of publication.

Regardless of code-verification, the code here is provided without warranty of any kind. Use at your own discretion.
