Technical Support FAQ
This is a collection of tips and tricks related to managing your GAMMA install, and in-game settings and configuration tweaks.
This does not cover performance issues.
Short version: keep an eye on the announcements channel in Discord and do whatever it says in the update announcement message.
If you aren't prepared to redo your settings, modlist and potentially start all-new playthroughs, don't update. If applicable, read the section on making backups.
Major version updates are generally announced in the Announcements channel in Discord, and come with a version number change.
Redo your backups after a major version update. Major version changes generally make changes to the modlist and settings, so backups aren't useful. Take notes on what you want to change after updating. Save game compatibility is never guaranteed for major version updates.
Typical steps:
- Run the GAMMA Launcher, make sure it's on the latest version.
- Leave all options on default.
- Click "Install / Update GAMMA"
These typically don't come with a version number change, and may or may not change the modlist. It's generally fine to use modlist and settings backups after performing a minor version update (but not always). Save games are generally compatible across minor version updates and hotfixes.
When in doubt, follow the instructions on the Announcements post, not these ones. If they are different, always follow the Announcements post.
Typical steps
- Run the GAMMA Launcher, make sure it's on the latest version.
- Disable "Force git download" and "Force zip extraction"
- Click "Install / Update GAMMA"
We do not recommend that you update just because the launcher reports a moddb status update. At worse, moddb addon updates can completely break your GAMMA install in a way that is not fixable by you, the end user.
Always keep an eye on the Announcements channel for any major GAMMA updates and update only if you want those changes to apply.
Due to the way moddb handles addons for mods, it is impossible to roll back an update without significant manual effort by you.
Every time you click "Install / Update GAMMA" in the GAMMA Launcher, your modlist, settings, and mod settings will reset. This is on purpose, as it helps repair broken installs. Remember to make backups before clicking that button.
To back up your Anomaly settings, back up the file Anomaly/appdata/user.ltx.
To back up your saves, simply back up Anomaly/appdata/savedgames. To transfer them to a new install of Anomaly, put your saves back in that folder (create the savedgames folder if it does not exist).
To back up your Mod Configuration Menu settings, find the mod "G.A.M.M.A. MCM values - Rename to keep your personal changes", and rename it to something else e.g. "My MCM Backup". The next time you update, it will be at the bottom of your modlist and disabled. Simply re-enable it to load your old MCM settings. Make all your modlist changes on this custom profile, not your default G.A.M.M.A. profile.
To back up your modlist profile (in fact, it's best to do this BEFORE you start changing things in the modlist), click the mod profile dropdown in MO2. Select "Manage <...>", and create a copy of the default G.A.M.M.A. profile. Then select your new copied profile.
Note that MCM backups and modlist backups do not update, ever. They are "snapshots" of the moment when you created them. We strongly recommend creating a new set of MCM backups and a new modlist based off the GAMMA default, whenever there is a major version update of GAMMA.
- Move your GAMMA and Anomaly folders to their new location.
- In your GAMMA folder, find and delete the configuration file
ModOrganizer.ini, it has a white icon (do not delete the .exe Executable file!) - From your GAMMA folder, open
ModOrganizer.exe(blue icon). It should ask you where your Anomaly folder is located, select the new location of your Anomaly folder.
We always recommend playing on DX11 where possible, but if you need to play on DX8 or DX9, you must follow the instructions on the DX8 and DX9 modlist page.
DX10 is broken. Do not play with it.
Ultrawide support is provided by the optional mod Dynamic Aspect Ratio Tweaks, which is included with GAMMA by default.
It is after the "End of List" separator - use the search bar in MO2 or scroll down to find and enable it. You can also separately download it from its Discord post.
4:3 aspect ratios are not supported by GAMMA.
If you crash while changing your resolution in-game, you can directly change it in Anomaly/appdata/user.ltx. Find and change the line:
vid_mode 1920x1080
and change the numbers to your desired width and height. Save, then launch the game.
If the font is too small in 1440p or 4K, find and enable the "Tactical Fonts for Anomaly" option for your monitor.
