All events page: Sort events by date

On this page I'm very happy to see that we have a lot of events: https://gettogether.community/events/all/

But it should be more useful to see them in ascending order so that I can plan to go to several events.

What do you think?

They're currently sorted by their distance from you (determined by geoip), which I thought would be more relevant than their starting date

What about sorting them by distance, then date? Or perhaps having a kind of button to choose our preference?
Or make a separation "near you" and "more far". Something like that.
I'm not UX designer so I don't know which solution could be useful. But that way it's a little bit difficult to find event and plan to go to them as it is.

I think having a combination of date and distance is best, there's not much point in knowing that there's an event tomorrow on the other side of the world.

Two options I see:

1. Break the list into two sections, one of "Nearby events" sorted by date, and give it a fixed distance of say 200 km (the homepage will already show nearby events within 100km by default), and the other section for all other events sorted by date.

2. Break the list into multiple sections, one per day or per month, and sort the events by distance within those.

I'm personally more a fan of option 2, thoughts from others?
