Enhancement: Characters having parallax/scrolling properties

What is your suggestion, and why should it be implemented?

One thing I noticed about characters is that they do not have camera scroll properties: As the camera moves each character will pan identically with each other. I do believe, however, that adding the same scroll properties that objects do would be very beneficial... if possible: I have not delved into the inner workings of how characters in stages work.
