Client may enable WireCompression via "custom" firebird.conf
Currently Firebird use default (6) level of (zlib-)compression for gbak -b -zip and for WireCompression. Already comressed backup stream will slowdown compression on wire and hog CPU time.
gbak -se -b -zip should always disable WireCompression.

gbak -se -b -zip doesn't transfer backup file over wire. Are you sure that WireCompression is relevant for this case?

Simplest fast way get backup on the client via net:

gbak -se -b db stdout

If WireCompression enabled in client firebird.conf and client run:

gbak -se -b -zip db stdout

server will try compress already compressed.
