TV UX: redesign Home, libraries, OddCrate, Social and game overlays for couch viewing #157
Owner UI direction — 9 October 2026: Physical Home/Guide now opens a nearly full-workspace (approximately 85–95% safe viewport) Options/Game Options overlay instead of the old compact menu. This requirement applies also to the TV profile, while #156 still requires genuine couch-first recomposition rather than scaling handheld pixels. The earlier statement below about not covering the entire screen 'unnecessarily' is superseded as to size; retain a subdued visible backdrop, focus/legibility, input safety and real Game Session identity. See #167, #168 and #170.
Parent: #156. Reuse the existing #111 navigation, #127–#135 Social/Together polish and #144–#152 OddCrate features.
Goal
Audit and recompose every important interactive surface for the 10-foot TV profile. This is not a global 960×540 upscaler and not a new backend/app.
Required screens
Primary shell & Home
Keep the same five primary destinations and consistent TrainerOS identity, but use TV-appropriate space, tabs/navigation rail, background/media and hierarchy.
Prioritize selected game, Continue/Play, useful current activity and readable recents. Avoid making the handheld's physical chassis ornament occupy the entire living-room screen.
Render full-resolution artwork appropriately, not interpolated tiny previews; preserve screenshot ownership/rights and aspect ratio.
Worlds / Multiverse / OddCrate
TV game discovery supports a genuine responsive grid/rail with uniform card sizes, focused artwork, readable names and large detail/media composition.
Balance number of visible titles against couch reading distance; do not fit 16 microcards on a 4K screen simply because pixels allow it.
Preserve existing cross-feature Adventure context, party/box/sprites and verified progress. Reflow info, imagery, badges and sidebars; no hidden offscreen controls or tiny stats.
Social / Together / GameParty
TV conversations show list/detail or a focused route according to viewport, with large chat text, obvious selected conversation and readable composer.
Existing one Together area, calls and multiple game parties remain discoverable without stacking UI strips or creating a second lobby.
Invitations/notifications are clearly readable from couch and do not steal destructive focus; maintain existing game/call/party state.
Home overlay / Settings / First-run / keyboard
In-game Home/menu works with big focus rows and concise information, without covering the entire screen unnecessarily or pausing/killing an unrelated running game.
QR sign-in, keyboard, confirmation, error/help screens, screenshots and modals must have TV variants; don't leave these as miniature handheld dialogs pasted in the middle of a 4K image.
Layout principles
Reuse common presenters/theme tokens; make layout differences intentional for each category (grids vs detail vs chat).
TV legibility: sufficient physical text sizes, safe margins, high-contrast focus, line-length limits, no dense clipped metadata.
Consistent content card sizing; no Pinterest-style variable-height masonry.
No new primary tabs, no duplicated business logic, no per-platform reimplementation.
Keep handheld layouts polished and performant; user can switch back without losing selected item/drafts.
Acceptance
At 1080p and 4K TV profile, Home, Worlds, Multiverse, OddCrate, Social, Trainer, Companions and Settings show truly distinct couch-friendly compositions.
TV game details show artwork/actions and creator/donation clearly; QR can be scanned from an ordinary viewing distance.
Controller-only Invite → Accept → Party → Home → Return and browse → Install → Play flows work in TV mode.
Chat text and onscreen keyboard remain readable; dialogs and errors are not clipped at safe-area bounds.
Curated real-device screenshots document each major TV layout with corresponding handheld comparison.
All game/save/Link/voice feature controllers are shared with handheld mode.
